Lost in Space returns for the small screen after 50 years since the original. Netflix has been developing the series for the last 2 years and finally this April 13th we will see the Robinson family return along with a currently unseen Robbie Robot. It weirdly also falls on the 20th anniversary of the 1998 Lost in Space movie that starred Matt LeBlanc and Gary Oldman.
So what can we expect from the new series? Well firstly, the villainous Dr Smith will be played by Parker Posey in a nice switch up of gender roles from the previous series, and the aforementioned movie. Acclaimed Canadian actress Molly Parker will play Maureen Robinson and will also likely bring a great performance.
A bit of the synopsis from Netflix keeps the shows original roots but will likely build on those for the modern age: “Set 30 years in the future, colonisation in space is now a reality, and the Robinson family is among those tested and selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world. But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, light-years from their original destination.”
This first series will run for 10 episodes all released on the same day so no doubt by that first weekend critics will have binge watched it and depending on popularity we’ll see about a second season…
