By now you would have heard the news that Mickey Mouse and Disney has acquired 20th Century Fox from the News Corp Group. The new paradigm of Disney being in control of a significant portion of the market will be an interesting thing to watch unfold over the next few years to see how it’s going to affect us, however… X-Men and other Marvel properties can finally join the main Marvel Cinematic Universe! This was something that was reported on almost 3 years ago by us and a few other outlets online and was seen as an ‘unlikely rumour’.
So what does this mean? Well so far we have 2 distinct cinematic universes going on we have the main MCU and the X-Men universe which includes the Wolverine, Deadpool and the forthcoming New Mutants film. But only since The Wolverine have they started to link the films together in the post credits scenes – that we all wait for at the end of every MCU film.
Merging them might be difficult as the X-Men films have a few time jumps and have re-connected a few times already but then again the MCU has a few like that already. Merging these 2 super groups would be fun and thankfully Marvel Comics already published a series many years ago that would be perfect for this mass merging of X-Men and MCU it’s called Avengers vs. X-Men. Producers would be insane not to utilise this property to bring these loved characters together.
Now there is 1 other unconnected Marvel property that has had 3 (4 unofficially) films to its name and all rather unsuccessfully, Fantastic Four have had 2 goes at the big screen and both were not great, but heck Spider-Man is on his 3rd go so this is a perfect time for the MCU to do Marvel’s first family the justice it deserves! With so much potential and the fact everyone can say mutant now, it’ll be an interesting step into a bigger MCU. Although how they’ll explain two Quicksilver’s is beyond me, lucky ones already been killed off I suppose.
